Child Safety Investigations - Social Services Specialist - Jackson County
Join a vital mission to protect and support children in Jackson County as a Child Safety Investigations - Social Services Specialist. In this full-time, in-person role, you will be at the forefront of child welfare, working directly with families, law enforcement, and community partners to investigate reports of child maltreatment, including abuse, neglect, exploitation, and human trafficking. Your efforts will help ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable children across Mississippi, making a meaningful difference in their lives.
Required Skills:
Prior employment with the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS) within the past five years
Successful completion of MDCPS Pre-Service Training
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Social Services, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Nursing, Counseling, Educational Psychology, Family Studies, or a related field
Strong ability to recognize signs of child maltreatment
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Solution-focused critical thinking and ethical decision-making
High cultural competency and rapport-building skills
Flexibility, professionalism, and resilience in dynamic environments
Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation
Ability to pass background check and drug screening
Willingness to travel within service areas in Mississippi
Nice to Have Skills:
Experience conducting forensic interviews or court testimony
Knowledge of child welfare laws and procedures
Bilingual abilities or multilingual skills
Experience working with diverse populations
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field
Prior experience in child protective services or investigations
Other Requirements:
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Willingness to travel routinely within assigned service areas (mileage reimbursed)
Successful completion of background checks and drug screening
