Job Description
Registered Nurse - PCU
Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), where your expertise will directly impact patient outcomes in a fast-paced, supportive environment. This vital role offers an opportunity to work with diverse patient cases—including acute cardiac events, post-surgical recoveries, and stepdown unit overflow—ensuring comprehensive care for a variety of complex conditions. Required Skills:
Valid RN license in good standing
Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care experience, including cardiac, surgical, or stepdown units
Current BLS and ACLS certifications
NIH certification preferred
Ability to manage titratable medications (e.g., Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, Levophed) with manager approval if experience is unavailable
Skilled in chest tube management, tracheostomy care, peritoneal dialysis, lumbar CSF drains, and ISTAT point-of-care testing
Proficient in using telemetry monitoring systems and interpreting cardiac strips
Able to pass an EKG competency exam prior to start
Nice to Have Skills:
Experience with Meditech Expanse EMR system
Knowledge of IV pumps (Alaris)
Familiarity with hospital-specific equipment such as Pyxis medication dispensing systems
Experience in float nursing within MedSurg and stepdown units
Preferred Education and Experience:
Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
At least 2 years of recent, relevant clinical experience in acute or cardiac care settings
Prior travel nursing experience is a plus but not mandatory; first-time travelers must meet experience criteria
Other Requirements:
Certification in NIH and recent completion of an EKG competency exam
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including every other weekend, night shifts, and holidays
Willingness to adhere to unit dress code (pewter scrubs, white/black/gray T-shirts with WK monogram, gray/black jackets)
Maintain professional appearance with badge visible above the waist
Provide coverage for diverse shifts, including 4- or 3-day workweeks, with scheduling flexibility
Travel and licensure reimbursements when applicable
