Registered Nurse - Post-Cardiac Care Unit (PCU)

Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Registered Nurse specializing in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), where your expertise will directly impact patient recovery and outcomes. What You Will Do:
  • Provide high-quality nursing care to cardiac and medical stepdown patients, including post-CABG, lung surgeries, PCI procedures, and complex medical cases.
  • Titrate cardiac drugs, insulin, and vasopressors such as Esmolol, Cardene, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dopamine, and more.
  • Manage central lines, chest tubes, tracheostomies, drains, and perform wound care.
  • Support patient recovery with vigilant monitoring, frequent interventions, and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including CNAs, techs, secretaries, and specialists, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Required Skills:
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent PCU RN experience in an acute care setting.
  • Proficiency in titrating cardiac drips, insulin, and vasopressors.
  • Competency in managing chest tubes, central lines, and related procedures.
  • Ability to pass an EKG competency exam prior to onboarding.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
  • Excellent clinical assessment skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Nice to Have Skills:
  • LVAD certification (preferred for 2 West).
  • Experience with venous sheath management, TR Bands, and temporary pacemaker management.
  • Additional certifications related to cardiac care.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • At least 2 years of critical care or stepdown experience, with specific exposure to cardiac patients.
  • Prior travel nursing experience or willingness to travel.

Other Requirements:
  • Valid nursing license in good standing.
  • Ability to work 4-day weeks on a rotating schedule, including every other weekend.
  • Availability to work 2-3 major holidays per year.
  • Must have recent acute care experience; first-time travelers need at least 2 years of permanent staff RN experience.
  • No call required; flexibility with time off requests up to 7 days.
  • Must adhere to unit dress code: pewter scrubs, gray/white/black T-shirts, gray/black jackets, badges worn above the waist.
  • Free parking available.
  • Must be fully vaccinated and compliant with hospital policies.
