Job Description
Registered Nurse - PCU
Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and make a vital difference in patient care. As a key member of our unit, you will provide specialized nursing care to patients with complex health conditions, including CVA, TIA, and COVID-19 cases, ensuring optimal outcomes and compassionate support.
Required Skills:
Minimum of 2 years recent experience as an RN in an acute care setting
Proven proficiency with NIHSS assessment
Expertise in CVL management and placement
Competence in foley catheter management and tube feedings (NGT, PEG)
Experience with arterial lines and diabetes management
Drip titration skills, including Levophed (preferred), Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Insulin
Ability to pass an EKG competency exam prior to orientation
Knowledge of Meditech Expanse EMR system
Strong communication and critical thinking skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Nice to Have Skills:
Experience with PICC/midline placement and the VAT team
Familiarity with Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication systems
Past experience floating across Stepdown and Med-Surg units
BLS, ACLS certifications
Experience with arterial line management
Preferred Education and Experience:
Valid RN license in good standing
At least 2 years of recent, relevant trauma or acute care experience
Experience working with complex patient populations
Other Requirements:
Valid BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications
Must be separated for at least 1 year if previously a perm staff RN
Ability to work a flexible schedule including every other weekend, major holidays (2/3), and 4-day or 3-day work weeks as specified
Willingness to float to Stepdown and Med-Surg units as needed
Must wear proper scrubs and badges at all times, adhere to professional standards
No on-call responsibilities; work scheduled shifts
