What You’ll Do
  • Provide high-acuity stepdown/PCU nursing care with frequent monitoring and/or intervention.
  • Manage patients including post-procedure and post-operative populations (as assigned by unit).
  • Titrate common infusions as ordered, including cardiac drips, insulin drips, and vasopressors.
  • Support care for patients requiring advanced monitoring and specialized equipment (as assigned).
  • Perform and coordinate bedside interventions such as chest tube/tracheostomy care, central line support, and wound/drain management.
  • Support cardiac stepdown needs, including (as applicable) venous sheath/TR Band care and temporary pacing management.
  • Document care accurately in the assigned EMR system and follow unit protocols.
What You Need
Required
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS
  • 2 years PCU RN experience
  • Ability to PASS an EKG competency exam as part of compliance prior to arrival

Preferred
  • LVAD certification (2 West only)
  • Prior experience with cardiac stepdown patient types
About the Assignment
This PCU/Stepdown assignment supports a facility with 24–25 beds across multiple stepdown units, including Cardiac Stepdown and Medical Stepdown overflow. During orientation, you’ll be assigned to a home unit based on experience; cardiac stepdown experience is important if you’d like to be considered for the Cardiac Stepdown areas. The typical patient ratio is 1:3–4, and the unit is staffed with daily support resources including CNA coverage (night coverage includes 1 tech) and in-house teams as available.
