What You’ll Do
Provide direct nursing care for stroke and neuro-related patients, including CVA/TIA patients who may require TPA administration
Care for patients in a stepdown/overflow environment, including complex medical conditions (e.g., AFIB/RVR, DKA, COPD, ARF, s/p heart caths)
Manage required therapies and medications, including titrated IV drips (e.g., Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, Levophed—manager approval required if not previously experienced)
Support post-surgical care for spinal procedures such as ACDF and Laminectomy
Provide safe care for specialty equipment/procedures as applicable (e.g., chest tube management, tracheostomy care, peritoneal dialysis, ISTAT, and lumbar/CSF drains—preferred)
Utilize the unit’s workflow and documentation systems (EMR: Meditech Expanse; medication dispensing: Pyxis)
Complete required compliance checks, including an EKG competency exam prior to arrival
What You Need
Required
Current RN licensure
BLS, ACLS, NIH certification
2 years of acute care RN experience
Preferred
Experience with lumbar/CSF (lumbar) drain management
Experience with titratable gtts and/or specialty critical care infusion management
About the Assignment
This role supports a stroke-focused care environment with 12 beds and a RN-centered workflow (including telemetry monitoring). Patient care includes CVA/TIA cases where TPA administration may be needed, as well as stepdown overflow and post-spinal surgery support. The unit is described as traveler-friendly with in-house support services (e.g., RT, phlebotomy, hospitalist).
