What You’ll Do
Provide direct bedside nursing care for critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU
Manage common PICU diagnoses including MS, DKA, sepsis, respiratory failure, and post-op care (e.g., spinal/hip) and neuro patients (e.g., post-crani/EVD drains)
Support ICU-level medication therapy and monitoring, including comfort with titrating pressors, insulin, heparin, sedation, and pain drips
Perform and/or assist with required critical-care nursing skills such as PIV placement, CVL support, telemetry, wound care, and drains/wound care
Maintain accurate documentation using Meditech Expanse and ensure safe medication administration with Pyxis and Alaris IV pumps
Collaborate with the care team to support patient ratios of 1:2 RN (per assignment); no CNA staffed on the unit at this time
Follow unit policies and complete compliance steps (including required EKG competency exam prior to arrival)
What You Need
Required
RN license (per facility requirements)
BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS
Minimum 2 years of PICU experience in acute care
Ability to work the required schedule rotation (see About the Assignment)
Preferred
NRP
Cross-trained flexibility to float to Adult ICU and/or Med/Tele (approval may be required if not comfortable)
Experience with adult ICU/stepdown acuity (for appropriate placements)
About the Assignment
This PICU (pediatric ICU) assignment supports a 6-bed unit with an intensive, family-oriented culture. Staffing targets 3–4 RNs per shift, with a weekend rotation every other weekend and a mandatory 4 days one week / 3 days the next week schedule. RN responsibilities focus on critical-care nursing for complex diagnoses, with support available from 24/7 RT, hospitalist on-call, and intensivist support.
