What You’ll Do
Provide direct patient care for PCU-level patients with complex medical needs
Monitor and manage care for conditions such as AFIB/RVR, DKA, HTN, COPD, ARF, and post-procedure patients
Support care for stroke unit overflow patients, including those needing TPA administration when applicable
Manage care for spinal surgical patients (e.g., ACDF, laminectomy) and related acuity needs
Administer and titrate ordered infusions (e.g., common PCU drips such as Cardene/Cardizem, insulin, heparin, Neo, Levophed) per policy and scope
Use clinical judgment to respond promptly to changes in patient condition
Document care accurately in the facility EMR (Meditech Expanse) using Alaris pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing
What You Need
Required
2 years of RN experience in acute care
BLS, ACLS, NIH
Ability to provide PCU-appropriate care for medically complex patients
Preferred
Experience with one or more of the following: chest tube management, tracheostomy care, peritoneal dialysis, ISTAT, CSF (lumbar) drains
Familiarity with titratable infusions used in PCU settings (facility may require manager approval depending on experience)
About the Assignment
This PCU position involves caring for a variety of high-acuity medical patients, including overflow stroke needs and post-procedure/post-surgical patients. Staffing support may include charge nurse support, in-house resources (e.g., RT and tele monitoring), and unit-based teams as available.
