As a Point of Care Laboratory Technologist, you will operate in a mobile or remote environment under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager. Your primary responsibilities include performing waived laboratory tests in various clinical settings, ensuring accurate test results, and maintaining the highest quality standards. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic, ever-changing environment with a diverse patient population. Key Responsibilities:
Receive and process specimens collected by phlebotomists or couriers.
Operate and maintain mobile laboratory vans, including driving to high-volume areas for STAT testing when necessary.
Accurately enter patient demographics and test orders into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Verify quality control (QC) parameters before testing, troubleshoot instrument or computer issues, and escalate problems promptly.
Conduct a variety of point-of-care tests including Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Molecular, and Coagulation tests.
Log, process, and document specimens ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards.
Confirm abnormal or unusual results, and communicate findings to supervisors promptly.
Perform blood collection procedures such as venipuncture and capillary sampling.
Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies, including recording lot numbers and QC documentation.
Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments to ensure optimal performance.
Maintain complete, accurate QC records and ensure adherence to safety protocols, including biohazard handling.
Perform clerical functions related to specimen management and reporting.
Support the safety and quality of the laboratory environment at all times.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
Require frequent standing, talking, hearing, and handling specimens or equipment.
Occasional walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
Ability to lift or move up to 15 pounds regularly; occasional heavy lifting may be necessary during specimen transport or equipment handling.
Must operate in environments with potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, hazardous biological materials, and chemicals, following strict safety protocols.
Valid driver’s license and ability to drive mobile lab vans are essential.
Qualifications:
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or equivalent (preferred).
Experience with waived point-of-care testing and laboratory information systems.
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly.
Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members and healthcare providers.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
