Job Description

Discover an exciting opportunity as a Locum Physician specializing in Gastroenterology in Lufkin, TX. This pivotal inpatient role offers a unique chance to apply your expertise in a dynamic healthcare setting, providing critical care and procedures without outpatient duties. You will work closely with experienced endoscopy-trained nursing staff, perform essential GI procedures—including endoscopies, colonoscopies, and ERCPs—and support hospitalists in managing diverse cases such as GI bleed, abdominal pain, SBO, and food impaction. MacIntshing a balanced work-life dynamic, you'll have the flexibility to indicate your available shifts within a 24-hour call schedule, ensuring both professional fulfillment and personal balance.

Ideal candidates will possess strong GI procedural skills, including ERCP capabilities, with proficiency in managing emergent and routine inpatient cases. Your ability to perform procedures with conscious sedation, backed by anesthesia support, will be essential. Excellent communication skills, adaptability, and a commitment to patient-centered care are key attributes for success in this role.

Required skills include proven proficiency in endoscopies, colonoscopies, ERCP, inpatient management, and familiarity with EMR systems such as Paragon, with plans to transition to EPIC later in 2026. Candidates should hold current medical licensure, with clean malpractice and disciplinary histories.

Preferred qualifications encompass prior inpatient GI experience, proficiency in advanced procedures, and flexibility to work on scheduled dates, including multiple 24-hour call shifts throughout the year. Certification in advanced GI procedures is highly valued but not mandatory.

Additional requirements include willingness to work scheduled shifts, participate in inpatient rounding, and be adaptable to the hospital’s admit protocols. Travel considerations, lodging, and credentialing processes are flexible, with quicker onboarding facilitated through emergency privileges if needed.

The hourly rate for this position is competitive, complemented by comprehensive benefits such as weekly pay via direct deposit, medical coverage, license, certification, travel reimbursements, and a robust referral bonus program. The position starts on January 13, 2026, with credentialing timelines of 30-60 days.

Take this opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a community-focused healthcare environment. Apply now to become a valued member of our team, delivering exceptional care to patients in need while advancing your professional journey.
