Child Safety Investigations - Social Services Specialist - Hancock County

Join a vital mission to protect children and strengthen families as a Child Safety Investigations - Social Services Specialist. In this full-time, in-person role, you will be at the forefront of child welfare efforts across Hancock County, conducting investigations, safety assessments, and collaborating with community partners to ensure the well-being of vulnerable children. Your work will directly impact the lives of children and families, making a meaningful difference in the community.

Required Skills:
  • Prior employment with the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS) within the past five years
  • Successful completion of MDCPS Pre-Service Training
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Social Services, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Nursing, Counseling, Educational Psychology, Family Studies, or a related field
  • Ability to conduct thorough investigations, including home visits and interviews
  • Strong critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities
  • High cultural competency and rapport-building skills
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance
  • Ability to pass background checks and drug screening
  • Willingness to travel within Mississippi and participate in on-call rotations

Nice to Have Skills:
  • Experience testifying in court or administrative proceedings
  • Knowledge of forensic interview techniques and autopsy procedures
  • Familiarity with data management and case documentation tools
  • Experience working with law enforcement and legal professionals

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Prior experience working in child protective services or investigations
  • Demonstrated commitment to child welfare and community service

Other Requirements:
  • Must have worked for MDCPS within the last five years and completed Pre-Service Training
  • Not employed by MDCPS within the past six months
  • Ability to travel routinely within service areas
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as part of on-call duties
