Job Title: Child Care Teacher

Position Overview:

We are seeking passionate and dedicated Child Care Teachers to join our team in Richmond, VA. This role involves nurturing and stimulating children aged six weeks to six years, utilizing the Reggio Emilia educational approach. The ideal candidate will provide a safe, engaging, and supportive environment that fosters children's growth, development, and self-esteem. This is a full-time, direct-hire position with competitive annual compensation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lesson Planning & Implementation: Develop and execute creative, developmentally appropriate lesson plans tailored to the needs of each child. Incorporate Reggio Emilia principles into both indoor and outdoor activities to promote curiosity, independence, and social-emotional growth.

  • Child Development & Observation: Document daily progress, behaviors, and learning outcomes for each child. Regularly prepare reports for parents and staff, ensuring transparent communication regarding developmental milestones.

  • Classroom Management & Safety: Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free environment that adheres to licensing, accreditation, and health standards. Supervise children and staff (including aides and volunteers) to ensure a safe and nurturing setting.

  • Family & Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with children’s families through respectful communication and shared insights about their child’s progress. Facilitate a collaborative environment that involves parents in the learning process.

  • Health & Infection Control: Implement strict hygiene protocols, including routine cleaning and sanitization of classroom materials and surfaces. Monitor environmental safety and respond promptly to any maintenance or safety concerns.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Follow all licensing, accreditation, and statutory requirements. Maintain accurate records and reports for internal review and compliance authorities.

  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing education, staff meetings, and mandatory continuing education sessions to stay current with best practices and educational strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background:
    • Required: A minimum of a two-year degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Psychology, or a closely related field; or a high school diploma/equivalent complemented by at least 40 hours of relevant coursework.
    • Preferred: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education.

  • Certifications:
    • Preferred: Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.

  • Experience:
    • At least two years of experience working with children aged six weeks to six years, including direct care and educational activities.
    • Experience with the Reggio Emilia approach is highly desirable.

  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and team members.
    • Effective communication skills—verbal and written.
    • Ability to exercise good judgment, problem-solving, and reasoning in a fast-paced environment.
    • Physical ability to perform routine tasks such as bending, climbing, and supervising active children.
    • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.

Work Schedule & Compensation:
  • Shift: Approximately 7.5 hours daily, Monday through Friday, between 6:00 AM and 8:00 PM (exact shifts to be finalized).
  • Salary Range: $38,000 to $48,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
