Job Title: Physician Assistant (PA) - Orthopedic Surgery Location: Coos Bay, Oregon Facility: Bay Area Hospital, 127-bed Level III Trauma Center
Overview:
Bay Area Hospital, the region’s largest healthcare facility on the southern Oregon coast, is seeking a skilled and compassionate Physician Assistant (PA) to join our dynamic Orthopedic Surgery team. This full-time, permanent position offers an excellent opportunity to serve a vibrant community while working in a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with orthopedic surgeons affiliated with the South Coast Orthopedic Associates (SCOA) to provide comprehensive orthopedic care.
Perform surgical assisting, including tissue closure and intraoperative support.
Manage preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patient care, including floor rounding, patient education, and discharge planning.
Conduct thorough patient evaluations by performing comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as X-rays, MRI, CT scans, EMGs, and laboratory studies.
Prescribe medications within scope of practice, including pain management and antibiotics.
Perform minor procedures including joint aspirations, injections, digital blocks, wound management, and reduction of trauma.
Assist in surgical procedures, including first assist duties and tissue closures.
Serve as the primary orthopedic contact for emergency department and inpatient care, including shared call duties equitable among team members.
Develop and implement treatment plans for orthopedic conditions, exercising clinical judgment on when to consult or refer to supervising surgeons.
Maintain accurate documentation within electronic medical records (Epic).
Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, patient education, and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
Board Certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) required.
Valid Oregon license to practice as a PA preferred; must be eligible for licensure if not already licensed.
Ability to work independently and effectively within a team environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Previous experience in orthopedic surgery or trauma care is preferred but new graduates with strong clinical skills will be considered.
Proficiency with electronic health records (Epic preferred).
Schedule and Compensation:
Full-time, predominantly day shifts with shared on-call responsibilities (schedule to be determined).
Occasional weekend shifts may be required.
Competitive base salary starting at $160,000 based on experience.
Sign-on bonus up to $10,000, with potential relocation assistance.
