Locum - Physician - General Medicine AK

Overview:
Veterans Evaluation Services (VES), a Maximus company, is recruiting qualified General Medicine Physicians to perform crucial assessments for our nation's Veterans. As a Locum provider, you will deliver high-quality, interview-based examinations and some physical assessments, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. This role allows you to utilize your medical expertise in a flexible, fast-paced environment that makes a real difference in veterans' lives. Required Skills:
  • Valid medical license in Alaska and Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, or related general medicine specialty.
  • Experience performing Compensation & Pension exams or separation health assessments preferred.
  • Strong interviewing skills with the ability to conduct thorough evaluations.
  • Knowledge of physical assessments including range of motion testing and muscle strength testing.
  • Excellent documentation and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently, adhere to deadlines, and maintain professionalism in a regulatory environment.

Nice to Have Skills:
  • Prior experience with veterans’ health assessments or in a government contracting setting.
  • Familiarity with medical software and documentation portals.
  • Additional certifications related to VA exams or disability evaluations.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical practice in general medicine or related fields.
  • Prior experience in P&P exams, VA assessments, or related procedures is a plus.

Other Requirements:
  • Own or have access to a private practice location within designated areas (Juneau, Sitka, or Delta Junction).
  • Must be within 50 miles of Juneau or Sitka, or within 75 miles of Delta Junction.
  • Willingness to perform both half-day and full-day assessments on a PRN, ongoing basis.
  • Must complete credentialing and onboarding processes promptly.
  • Local candidates only; travel costs included in compensation rates.
  • Continuous administrative follow-up including report submissions and addendums; no extra pay for post-assessment administrative work.
